QUARANTINE REGULATIONS.

[PBEBS ASSOCIATION TBIBGBAM: ] WELLINGTON, August 9.

The following quarantine regulations appear in to-night's "Gazette":—l. In any case where a Teasel arrives from an infected place with a certificate under the hand of duly constituted authority that small-pox did not exist on any person on board the vessel at the time of sailing, and when no caße of smallpox has developed itself among the persons on board during the voyage, if after the inspection referred to in the 107th section of the Act, no symptoms of smull-pax are discovered by the health officer, if a medical practitioner, or by medical practitioners assisting the health officer in such inspection, then the vessel shall be admitted to pratique ; provided that any perscn on board the vessel who does not consent to be or is not successfully vaccinated after the arrival of the vessel in quarantine and before landing, unless he shall be exempted therefrom by the health officer or medioal practitioner upon the ground of his having been successfully vaccinated within a sufficiently recent time in the opinion of the health officer or medical practitioner, Bhall be detained in quarantine under observation until a period of sixteen full days shall have elapsed from the time of the vessel having left the place infected. 2. In cases where imallpox has appeared on board any vessel during the voyage the period of incubation of such disease shall be deemed to be fifteen full days, and the vessel shall be detained in quarantine for a period of sixteen days from the latest date on which, owing to the appearance of smallpox on board

the vessel, it was, in the opinion of thehealth officer or medical practitioner, possible for any person on board the vessel to have been infected with the said disease; but in oase of an;f person on board the vessel who does not exhibit symptoms of disease, and who while in quarantine is vaccinated successfully, the period of detention is quarantine may be shortened at the discretion of the health officer or said medical practitioner.
