BOARD OF CONSERVATORS.
A meeting of the Board of Conservators of the Waimakariri was held at the office of the Board, Hereford street, this afternoon, at two o’clock. Present—Messrs J. L. Wilson (in the chair), E. Jones, White, Peryman, England, and Boag. The overseers report was read, to the effect that the river had risen a foot since last meeting. Men wore engaged in planting poplars and willows on the banks.
The Chairman said planting had been done at the upper and lower works ; in the former direction 7000 English trees had been planted, and cuttings had been put in both at the upper and lower works. The finance committee reported as to the collection of rates for 1878-9, and the chairman (Mr Jones) moved authorise the town clerk to close the Waimakarari rate books for the year 1878-79,” Seconded by Mr White and carried. Accounts to the amount of £163 Os lid were passed for payment. The Board then proceeded to consider the correspondence —From the Hallswell Road Board, a letter was read, intimating that they could only undertake the collection of the rate at 10 per cent. The letter was ordered to be received. —From Mr Boskoski, offering to lease a reserve on certain terms. The offer was accepted. , , The Board ordered that the seal of the Board be affixed to certain leases. i The Board then adjourned.
