The barque Elizabeth arrived yesterday from Newcastle consigned to her owner, Mr O. W. Turner, with a cargo of coal. The Elizabeth loft here about five months ago for Tituarn, where sho loaded grain and other produce for Capetown. On her voyage to the Cape she met with a five days’ acquaintance with icebergs in 25 W. 48 S. Captain Lovett states that he experienced the greatest anxiety in clearing these floating islands, so great was their size. The barque had to be hove to at night, and so numerous were they, that in daylight it was only by the best of cars that the frozen monsters wore avoided. The Jasper, bound to Capetown from Now Zealand, experienced a similar passage, The bergs, says Captain Lovett, were in sight all round the ship like a group of islands. The round trip of the Elizabeth was made in five months from leaving here. She loaded at Timaru as stated, called at the Cape, came thence to Newcastle and on to this port. The vessel was berthed immediately on arrival, and will commence to load for Mr C. W. Turner directly her present cargo is discharged. Captain McDonald, of the Magellan Cloud, reported sighting the Pelican and the Fawn off the Straits, bound for this port. The schooner Mary King was loading at Kaipara when the Magellan Cloud left last Wednesday fortnight. The Maud Graham was then going in.
