SPOTTING.

OHBIBTOHUEOH HUNT CLUB STEEPLECHASES.

The following race was run yesterday after we went to press ; The Consolation Stake, an open handicap of 25 sovs. 1 sov on nomination, to go to the fnnd. Post entry. One mile and a half. Mr J. H. Lunn’s b g Clarence, by Ravensworth. I4st 41b... ... (Mr H. Lunn) 1

Mr H. C. Ford’s br m Flora, aged, 10st (Owner) 2 Levant, 12st 101 b, and Warlock, 10st, also ran.

The betting was, both in the totalisator and in the ring, in favor of Clarence, the odds being about 2 to 1 on him. Levant and Warlock made the running for the first half mile, when they both, in the order named, came to grief. Flora and Clarence now raced stride for stride to the last turn, where Clarence, in spite of his heavy impost, got a slight lead, and ridden with great judgment, won comfortably from Flora, Levant and Warlock being unplaced. At the conclusion of the Consolation the protest of Mr Woodman, who wm second in the Tally-ho Handicap, against Winfield, the winner, was gone into by the stewards. T 1 e protest was that Winfield went inside the flag by Redwood's jump. The evidence went to show that Winfield went the right side of the flag, and the protest was disallowed. Messrs Hobbs and Q-oodwin ran the Pari Mutnel and were well patronised. The course was first-class going, and the various events started with commendable punctuality. Mr Milton acted with hie usual success as clerk of the scales, and, altogether, the meeting was, in every respect, a great success. The trains were thoroughly well worked.
