MELBOURNE, August 2, Shipping. Sailed, this morning, Hero, for New Zealand. ObituaryMr Marcus Clark, sub-librarian of the Melbourne Public Library and a wellknown author, died, aged 34. Prorogation of Parliament. The Victorian Parliament was prorogued to-day, and will meet again on the 4th inst. for the new session. Our OatsNew Zealand oats are to-day quoted at 3s 3d for common to 3s fid for good sorts. ALBANY, August 2. Shipping. The Peninsula and Oriental Company’s steamship Kaiserihind arrived in King George’s Sound this afternoon, with the inward English mail dated London, July Ist. SYDNEY, August 2. The Queen's Statue. The foundation stone of the statue of her Majesty the Queen was laid to-day by Prince Albert Victor of Wales, in an enclosure opposite St. James’s Church, in the presence of his Excellency Lord Augustus Loftus and suite and many members of the Legislative Council and Assembly. Twenty thousand children from schools in the city were present, and it is estimated that fully 70,000 spectators were on the ground.
