[per press association.] WANGANUI, August 3. A Blaze. A disastrous fire occurred Bt 430 this morning, and the residence of Mr Peter Bell, the draper of Bt. John’s Hill, was burned to the ground. A portion of the furniture was saved. The inmates escaped with much difficulty. The cause of the fire is unknown. The building was insured in the New Zealand office for £4OO. The furniture was totally uninsured, and the estimated loss is £IOO. The Stormhird Robbery. There is no clue as yet to the robbery from the Stormhird. Crime Increasing. Robberies of various kinds are greatly on the increase here. DUNEDIN, August 3, Sudden Death. At Milton, yesterday, Arthur Stewart, a boy, was playing football, and while running very fast with the ball, was observed to drop down suddenly. Medical aid was obtained, but life was extinct. Good Tidings. Mrs Humpson proceeds North to-day. A CallThe Dunedin Presbytery have unanimously sustained the call of the Rev, Mr Inglia, of Ballarat. [FROM ONE OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ASHBURTON, August 3. Resigned. Mr Alfred Saunders, M.H.R., has resigned his membership of the Ashburton County Council. The vacancy will be filled without delay.
