The following contributions were reeeired at the Canterbury Museum during the quarter ending June 30th : Mrs H. G. Watkins, Akaroa—Two specimens of land shells (Laoma leimosnias) from Akaroa. Mr W. J. Daly, Executive Commissioner for New Caledonia —Specimens of ores and minerals of New Caledonia. Mr S. Davenport, Executive Commissioner for South Australia—Geological specimens of South Australia. Mr A. B. Bloxam, Christchurch —Proof copy of Sir Thomas Lawrence’s pencil sketch of the imaginary appearance of the Duke of Wellington after death. Mr George Gould, Christchurch—Collection of ceramic industrial art, consisting of seven specimens of Meissen, two of Wedgewood, two of Vienna, three of Delft, one of Limoges, and one of Capo di Monte porcelain, and five specimens of German stoneware. Mr Armstrong, Colombo street north— Collection of old issues of the London “Times,” ranging from 1793 and 1821, containing accounts of important political and historical events, facsimile of warrant to execute Mary, Queen of Scots, facsimile of warrant to execute King Charles 1., copy of American Declaration of Independence, translation of Magna Charta. Mr J. Lilly, West Oxford—Specimen of Phasma horrida, Mantis, from Oxford Bush. Mr J. Watkins, Waikari —Fossil shells (Pecten and Lima) ; from the Heathstock road quarries. Mr B, Gillies, P.L.8., Dunedin—Collection of vertebrate and invertebrate animals in spirits of wine, collected by him at Brighton, Otago. Mr T, Kirk, F.L.S., Lincoln—Specimen of Madagascar seeds. Dr MTntyre, Timaru —Seven surgical engravings from drawings by Dr W. Hunter (1795 6), two specimens of frost fish, one specimen of frog. Dr Otto Finech, of Bremen—Skull of a New Irelander, antique filagree ring in silver, Norway.
Mr J. D. Enys, F.G.S., Oastlo Hill Station —Specimen of elephant ivory Philosophical Institute of Canterbury— Collection of imitation ivories, published by the Arundel Society, London. Mr T. Hacket, Nelson—Specimens of chrome ore from the Ben Nevis mine, Nelson.
Captain Alexander Meyer, German brig Steenken—One Zulu assegai, one Madagascar assegai. Mr Stanley Fowler, Stanley Yale, Amuri— Two specimens of the laughing jackass (Procellaria affinis), found in a hole (Jan. 7th last) in the Spencer ranges n ar the Wairau, abont 3500 ft. altitude.
Mr S. R. Webb, Ly lelton—Specimen of Mantis (Phasma horriaa). Mr Charles Smith, Southbridge One Buenos Ayres paper note, five Pesos. Mr J. D. Enys, P.G.S., Castle Hill Station —Two specimens of the sparrow hawk and quail hawk (Hieracidea brunnea and Nova Zealand is.) Mr R. M. Cotton, Lake Coleridge—Collection of fossils from Stony Gully, Oraigieburn range.
Mr R. W. Fereday, Christchurch —Collection of New Zealand Lepidoptera (set as arranged by him for public inspection). Mr T. H. Potts, F.L.S., Ohinetahi—Specimen of Ommastrephes Sloanii, Decapode, stranded on the Governor’s Bay beach. Mr J. D. Enys, F.G.S., Castle Hill Station —Specimen of Raoulia mamillaris, from Mount Torlesse.
The Lyttelton Harbor Board—Model of the Lyttelton breakwater and harbor improvements. Mr J. Tautari, Taumarore, Bay of Islands —Specimen of Hauemannite, black Manganese, from Waicmio (Kawakau). Mr James Inglis, Indian Executive Commissioner of the Melbourne International Exhibition —Complete assortment of samples of all the Indian textile fabrics represented in the Indian Court j sot of models of Native jewellery ; ten specimens of Hindoo pottery r sDOcimecs of brass ware, Temple utensils ; an oil painting by an Indian artist of the Goddess Palma rising from the lotus flower ; specimens of Bilaspur leather work, inlaid with feathers ; specimen of inlaid woodwork, ebony and ivory; agates from Thibet, worked; samples of Indian fibres ; samples of bark, cinchona, tobacco, indigo, Ac.
