LEONAED'S. This Bhip, consigned to Messrs Edwards, Bennett and Co , anchored off Stoddart's Point «n F ilay, after a passage of ninety-three days from Gravesend. She brought thirty-sis passengers, and a large general cargo. The voyage was an uneventful one with two exceptions—namely, the death of a male passenger, H. Simpson, aged thirty.eight years, on May Ist, and the carryins away of «i portion of the topgallant bulwarks and a sail or two during heavy weather. Generally good health, excepting in the instance named, appeared to have prevailed among the passengers, and the ahip came into sort looking as clean and comfortable as could be desired. Her commander, Captain Todd, was appointed to his present position in 1873, the ship then being in this port, then her voyages have been made chiefly to Wellington. Many old colonists will remember the St. Leonard's an Captain Pethorbridge's ship, ar.d since 1873 she has conveyed to this colony not a few who now regard themselves no doubt as having passed the stage of newohumism long ago. The accommodation for passengers on board the St. Leonard's is excellent. Her saloon is commodious and substantial, the furniture and fittings of solid mahogany throughout. Captain Todd and his officers were Bpoken of in the moßt complimentary terms by the passengers, and the passage had, to all intents and purposes, been made as pleasant and agreeable as possible mainly through their bonhomie. Captain Todd reports speaking the Ashbonrno on June 7th, in 30 S. and 27 W., bound to Auckland, and on June the 19th the City of Corinth, bound to Sydney, He reports of the St. Leonards that she left Gravesend on April 27th, ■ assed Dartmouth on May lßt, and took the N.E. trades in lat. 36 N. They were carried to 20 N. May 17th, and the Eqnator was crossed May 26th. The S.E. trades held to 29 S. long. 29 W., and were succeeded by light easterly winds chiefly, to making the Capo of Good Hope on June 24th. A few days before making the Cape a hard blow from the westward was experienced, which sp'it the foresail, and the ship was hoveto for twonty-fonr hours. The easting was run down in 43 and 4-1 S., with very heavy weather from the N.W. to S.W., squalls of terrific violence occasionally occurring. Tasmania was passed on the 21st instant and the Snares on the 27th, since which fine strong southerly winds were carried up the coast. The vessel will probably be berthed to-day, and her agßnts give notice elsewhere to consignees to pass entries and clear their goods by Tuesday next at latest. After discharging her present cargo the vessel will go on tho berth for London. THE WAIPA. The New Zealand Shipping Company's Bhip Waipa was coming up the harbor when our messenger left Port to day. She has twentytwo passengers, and left London a day or bo after tho St. Leonard's, whose arrival yesterday is reported in this issue. The routes travelled by the two ships must have been very nearly identical, and the most remarkable feature of their voyage, perhaps, is that in the 16,000 or 17,000 miles they have como they did not fall into each other's company. The result shows the race out to have been a well-contosted one from start to finish. A ead occurrence, namely, the death of the master of tho Waipa during the voyage, was reported by signals from the Heads before the vessel made the Port. The commander of the Waipa was Captain Gorn, an old servant of the New Zealand shipping Company and an old colonist, he having many years ago occupied the position of Pilot at Port Chalmers, and was subsequently master of the steamer Samson on the coasts.
