[PBE PBBBS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, July 27. DemonstrationThe Good Templar Lodges of Auckland have resolved to entertain the Good Templar seamen bolonging to the detached squadron. The Mayor has accepted appointment on the committee. The Dock. The Harbor Board have decided that the seal of the Board bo affixed to the application to the Governor in Council for an order to enable the Board to proceed with the preliminary work in connection with the construction of a large dock. Capt. McKenzie characterised the proceedings as illegal. WELLINGTON, July 27. Action at LawAt the District Court to-day the case Maher v the Corporation was heard. It was an action to recover the sum of £2OO, being damages in consideration of a conch accidci-t caused through the alleged negligence of the defendants. This evening the jury returned a verdict for the amount claimed.
I \ uatic A meeting of the Wellington Eacing Club wss held to-night. The balance-sheet showed that during the past season the club had paid off outstanding accounts to the sum of about £4CO, and that there was still an amount of £l2 standing to its debit. The report referred to the success attached to both meetings held last year, and recommended that the suoeess which attended the spring meeting, it being the first held here, was such as to warrant its oontinuance for the future. [rSOM A COBRESPONDBNT OF THE "PRESS."] WELLINGTON, July 27. A meeting of the provisional directors of the East Coast Native Land Company was held to-day. Ten members were present; the Hon. W. H. Reynolds in the chair. Paori Parou, a Native chief from the East Coast, attended to give information as to the feeling of the Natives in relation to the company. In reply to questions from the chairmat, ho expressed the strong desire of the chiefs and people to have their lands placed and administered by the company. He pointed out on the map various blocks proposed, amounting to rcirly a million seres, and said that the owners of all these would give conveyances to himself, as one of the largest shareholders. The directors, after examining and discussing the details of the proposal, unanimously expressed their satisfaction, and confirmed the appointment of eight managing directors for the first twelve months, and extended the date ef applications for shares till August 20th.
