[By Tblbgbaph.J [Per «.b. Rotoinahana, at the Bluff.] [Age Specials ] LONDON, July 11. A very excited feeling prevails throughout Arabia, and the authority of tho JPorte :b openly defied at Mccoa. The insurgents are in possession, and have defeated the troops sent against them. Two hundred and fifty Turkish soldiers were captured and massacred in cold blood. Owing to the ill-treatment which tho Jews in Southern Russia have been subjected to at the hands of the populace, there is a wholesale exedus from that country. Thousands of Jews are realising their property as far as practicable, and emigrating to the United States. July 12. Tho relations between France and Italy are very strained, owing to the arbitrary course pursued by the French Government in regard to Turis. Much excitement prevails in Italy, and the ill-feeling between the two oountries is rapidly growing, as it becomes apparent that France has assumed the virtuel Protectorate of Tunis. The repressive measures directed against the Socialists in Germany are strictly carried out. At Leipzig a largo number of persons suspected of complicity with the Socialistic agitation have been arrested, and summarily expelled the country. Intolligence received from tho West Coast of Africa states that bitter quarrels have arisen among the native tribes, end that fighting is imminent. The Governor of the Gold Coast Colony has endeavored to pacify the disputes, but without success. It is not thought that the British settlements will be threatened. The heat in tho United States during the present summer has been excessive, and the number of deaths from sunstroke has been beyond all precedent. In Cincinnati twentyseven deaths occurred in one day from this cause, Owing to the favourable weather experienced of late the prospects of the harveßt in Europe are moat satisfactory. In France, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy, tho harvest is most plentiful.
The art collection of the late Earl of Beaoonsfield is now being offered at publio auction by Messrs Christie and Co., the well. known auctioneers. The collection comprises many curious and valuable articles, and the sale ii attracting much interest. The Special Comnrision appointed to inquire into the alleged extensive bribery at the Doal election have reported adversely. Mr Olds, an agent of the Tory party, has been convicted of bribery and (sentenced to a term of imprisonment. July 14 The anniversary of the establishment of the French Republic was celebrated throughout France with great rejoicings. At Paris a grand fete was held, attended by the President and other high officials, in honor of the event. The utmost enthusiasm prevailed. The Khedive of Egypt, Mohammed Jewfek Pasha, acting under the advice of European Ministers, has issued an order that all slaves in Egypt shall be froed. Strenuous i xertions will also be made to put down the slave trade in the interior. At the vacation match at Cambridge, Eowe, one of the members of the University eleven, made the brilliant score of 101, carrying his bat out. The total score on his side amounted to 415. July 17. The Lord Mayor, Mr McArthur, gave a grand banquet at the Guildhall, at which tha Prince of Wales, Kalararia (King of the Sandwich Islands, who is now on a European tour), and other distinguished personages were present. In the speeches delivered the high importance of the colonics to the Empire was recognised, and eulogies were passed on the energy and progress displayed in the Canadian Dominion und Australia. Special reference was made to the successful result of the International Exhibitions held in Sydney and Melbourne. At the Ottawa Regatta, at which over 12,000 persons were present, Hanlan, the champion, who acted as umpire, was accorded a tremendous ovation. He was presented with a gold watch and chain in honor of his recent victories.
The military system of England has been tho subject of discussion by tho German Press, which comments very favorably on the discipline effieiencv, and martial aptitude displayed by tho Volunteers, aa exhibited at the recent review held at Brighton. A grand review of the Volunteers will be held next month beforo the Queen, at Windsor. Arrangements are being mado for holding a review of the Scotch regimonto in Scotland. Intelligence hea been received of a horrible massacre perpetrated by the Kurds in Asia Minor. A predatory tribe captured 120 women, who, isfuoing to work, were imprisoned in a barn. The building was then set on fire, and tho iumatea miserably perished. __^___________
