GAMING AND LOTTERIES ACT.
o the Editor of the Globe. Sib,—On reading “ Billy FairplayV letter in last night’s issue under the above heading, I can endorse many of the view* contained in. this candid but plain matter of fact epistle. Though it be the first effusion of his fertile brain, the common sense it contains ought to shame some of the class legislators in that House of Mystery, were class legislation is fast curtailing tha freedom and action* of a peaceful and loyal people. The sweeping, measures of the above Act will cause a number with labor and capital to eeek excitement where excitement prevail*. There is another class I would like to mention that “Billy ” has omitted, that is the ladies. A large percentage of the latter take no interest in horseflesh, and consequently fall back upon pleasures more suited to their taste ; and here the wife takes her husband to the fancy stall to invest a humble shilling in a doll for Sally or a drum for Dick. But it is here also that the Act drops in and stop* the wheel. There being no enjoyment, Dick is taken to gorge himself on stale bam, while tho father visit* the pub., where he drinks to extremes ; but here the Act does not drop in. A clause ought to be inserted, under police supervision, and the revenue increased by the imposition of a license. Yours, &0., AUNT SALLY. July 19th.
Tho following letter appeared in this morning’s issue of the ‘ Press”—
