AUSTRALIAN. Treuter’s telegrams.! MELBOURNE, July 21 The Ferret Conspiracy-
Tho trial of Henderson, Wright, and Wallace of the steamship Ferret, concluded to-day. The jury returned a verdict of guilty of conspiracy to defraud the Customs and intending purchasers, aud guilty with extenuating circumstances on tho other counts of tho indictment, as there was a want of evidence regarding the ownership of tho vessel. Sentence was deferred until Saturday next. SYDNEY, July 21. The SquadronTho vessels comprising the detached squadron, except the Bacchante, leave on Saturday for Auckland. SmallpoxA woman and her child among those at the quarantine station who are isolated from tho smallpox patients, have been attacked with tho disease in a mild form. No fresh cases have occurred in tho city since the 15th inst. ADELAIDE, July 21. Another Exhibition The Local International Exhibition was opened to-day by hia Excellency the Governor, in the presence of an assemblage of several thousand persons, including members of tho Ministry, the Chief Justice, tho Mayor of Adelaide, and the members of both Houses of Parliament. Tho opening ceremony passed off most successfully, aud was concluded with the singing of an inaugural cantata. Tho exhibits in tho building are already in a forward state. Shipping. Arrived, this morning—Orient Company’s steamship Orient, which, left Plymouth on June 11th.
