At the Magistrate’s Court this morning, Patrick Olauoy was charged on remand with unlawfully wounding Tim McOauliffe, tho well-known amateur pedestrian, with a penknife. Tho evidence wont to show that prosecutor struck the first blow, and Clancy drew the knife and used it in self-defence. Mr Beetham said ho considered that McOauliffe had brought tho assault on himself, and sympathised to some extent with Clancy. To say how far Clancy was justified, however, in using the knife in solf-clefenee, must be for a jury to decide. Accused was committed for trial ut tho next sitting of the District Court, hia own recognizance of £SO being accepted.
