THE POULTRY SHOW.

The fourteenth exhibition of the Dhrietchurch Poultry, Pigeon, and Dacary Society opened yesterday, at the Oddfellows’ Hall, under very unfavourable circumstances so far as the weather was concerned. Ordinarily the show on the first day is well filled by visitors, but yesterday they ware few and far between. As on former occasions, tho arrangements made by the committee of management for the staging of tho birds exhibited were very good. Tho poultry and soma of the pigeons were placed in cages round the hall and down the centre, tho canaries occupied the stage, and tho remainder of the pigeons were in tho back room. Speaking of tho show as a whole, though not, perhaps, equal in point cf individual merit to those which have preceded it, still it was a very creditable one indeed. The game classes were fairly represented throughout, and some of tho Dorkings exhibited showed •piality. Tho Oochins, too, especially the youngsters, were good, and the same may be said of some of tho Brahma classes. In pigeons, Mr W. G. Walker exhibited some really splendid birds in the carrier classes Messrs Walker and Growth and Mr Ashby had a fine lot for exhibition only. Of the hir'een entries for the flying raco from T.iuaru ten only were starters, three of Mr Deacon’s entries being scratched. Unlere the weather improves considerably there is but little chance of good time being made by tho birds. In the canaries there were some very excellent birds exhibited. Mostb Batchelor and Pozzi had their very ingeniously constructed model of railway, tramway, it., worked by trained birds, on the stage, and it attracted a great deal of attention. The birds worked not as if it were a tie's, hut

rather aa though they delighted in it. Mr W. C. Hill this year ran that veteran canary fancier, Mr Thomas Stapleton, very close in tho matter of prizes, scouring no lees than throe special prizes and a number of ordinary one?. Tho exhibits scut for exhibition only, particularly those of Messrs Staph ton and Sea and Mr Deal were excellent.
