RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The monthly meetißg of this Council was held on Friday evening last. Present—The Mayor (Mr Johnston), Org. Bart, Good, Boyd, White, Ivory, Crothers, Stephens, Ellis, and Gulliver. Inward correspondence was read—Prom Colonial Secretary re vacating property for 1880; Charitable Aid Board re allowances, and especially as regards Mr Colson's oase ; Messrs Oppenhcimer and Co., Auckland, re " Brush eleotrio light j" D. MsKendry ro Methven reserve rental. A petition was presented for forming aaphalte footpath from Mr Blackett's store to Good street. Or. Burt proposed, and Cr. Good seconded—" That this work be proceeded with, and conorete kerbing done at the same time. Carried. It was proposed by Cr. Boyd, —" That all work required to be done on the belts bo let by contract, and that the Mandeville and Rangiora Road Board be written to, asking for share or moiety of work be paid to Council by that Board in [carrying same out in accordance with the report of the borough surveyor." With respect to keeping the streets in repair, and for the better cleaning out of the ohantiols, especially near Avon street, Cr. Burt proposed, and Or Ellis seconded— " That the latter portion of the surveyor's report be adopted." Oaptain Parsons, as chairman of {the Domain Board, attended to interview the Council respecting the Racecourse Reserve, trusting that the Borough Councillors would offer no obstruction to" a private Bill being passed through the Assembly giving power to the Domain Board to use the Racecourse for a few days in the year, so that the committee might have the privilege of making a charge to enter the course, and thus assisting in defraying expenses ef improving reserve. Or. Burt proposed and Or. Boyd seconded—- " That the Rangiora Domain Board haa suoh necessary control on certain days placed in its power, and that it has sole oontrel over the racing track." Or. Good opposed the motion, but otherwise it was endorsed and carried, Mr Parsons having thanked the Oounoil, withdrew. The Mayor stated that the balance of the Cemetery account had been invested in the Rangiora Investment and Building Society (Permanent) for twelve months as a fixed deposit, at interest of 6 per cent. After some further routine work the Council adjourned.
