FOOTBALL.

CHRIST'S COLLEGE v. PILGRIMS’ CLUB. The match between the above took place on Saturday, on the College ground, and waa won by the College by a goal (kicked from the field) to a try. The game was played in four spells of twenty minutes each. All the spells were exceedingly well contested, and each team did their utmost to score a win for their respective clubs. In the second spell, Puller (Pilgrims) who played splendidly all through the gams, got the ball, and made a fine run, only being collared after going some fifty yards. Kesteven, who backed up well, had the ball passed to him, and, running in, secured a touch-down ; the try, however, was a failure. The third spell was as well contested as the previous ones, and, like them, ended with the ball in the centre of the ground. The fourth and last spell was the hardest fought of the lot, and up to a few minutes of time—the ball at the time being in the Pilgrims' twenty-five yards line—it looked as if neither side would do any further scoring. This, unfortunately for the Pilgrims, did not prove correct, for Lee, one of the College half-backs, secured a mark, and by a really splendid kick of about thirty-five yards placed a goal to the credit of the College. The Pilgrims, during the remainder of tho spell, did their utmost to retrieve their fortunes, but without avail, owing to the fine play of tho College forwards. For the winners the whole team played in a splendid style, among tho forwards Mollish, Studholme, Rhodes and Haast, showing up prominently, while Lee, Mathias and Cotterill, wore the pick of the backs. Tho Pilgrims played in far better form than in their previous matches, their backing up audj scrimmaging showing great improvement. The forwards played hard to a man, especially Alack, Woledge, W. de Castro, Wright, and Mountfort, while behind the scrimmages Fuller, Kesteven, and Winter, having the greater part of tho work to do, showed up moat prominently. A word of praise is due to the umpires. Their decisions were fair and impartial, and gave satisfaction to both teams, not a word of dispute being heard throughout the game.
