A writer in the “St. James Gazette” says that more money may hare been made by a single novel, but probably no such price for the same amount of printed matter was ever offered as the £IO,OOO paid to Lord Beaconsfield for the copyright of “ Bndymion,” Washington Irving received 1000 guineas for the “ Sketch Book,” the first of his works published in England; for “Bracebridge nail,” which came out next, he received 2000 guineas, and for “Tales of a Traveller,” 3000 guineas from Mr Murray, Murray paid in nil about £17,000 to Byron for his different poems and plays.
