He's been a little aigewise to me eber since de las' donashun'parly, but I nebber saw a man melt down as he did. He called me an agitator. What does dat xi ean ? I know it's sunthin' good, but I can't ';iactlygit de full meanin'." " Why he meant that you were kicking up a fuss." " Did he ? Fo' de L»wd but I took it de odder way! Did he roilcy mean dat ? De old woman an' I couldn't make it out, but we fought it mus' be sunthin' sweet. Den he remarked that I war' a bigot. Was dat abuse?" " I should say so." " Did he mean bad when he called me a fawnin* sickerphant and a fossilised corruptionist?" "He certainly did. Many men have knocked down for saying less." "Fo' de Lawd ! but how ye talk! Am it possible dat I stood dar an' took dat all in an* smiled an' laffed an' actually asked de ole man to etep in some whar ! an' have a glass of cider ? Why, sah, if I'd had de slightest hint of what he meant, I'd have orushed him to pulp in two minits, sah—de worst lookin' pulp yon ever sot eyes on!
