Theatrical. Bandmann is having good houses here. AUCKLAND, June 29. ShippingThe Eotomahana arrived to-day. She left Sydney on the 23rd, and has anchored in the stream pending the health officer’s inspeotion. NAPIEB, June 29. Bible in Schools. The Napier school committee refused to allow effect to be given to the permission granted by the Education Board to the Bible in schools committee, to issue a circular through the schools in order to ascertain the wishes of the parents of children in respect to Bible reading. The school oommittej expressed the opiuion that the Education Board had altogether acted beyond its powers, and instructed the head master not receive tho circulars, or allow their distribution in the school. More Earthquakes. Another smart shock of earthquake wee felt at 7.15 this morning. By the earthquake on Sunday at Woodville the losses in tho destruction of chimneys and crockery is estimated a t £530. In Napier the shock was slight and no damage was done. Death of an Old Settler’s Wife. News has been received of the death of the wife of Mr Meinertenhazan, an old Hawke’s Bay sheep farmer. She died shortly after arrival in England, whither the whole family recently took up their residence. DUNEDIN, June 29, Fire. A three-roomed cottage at North-East Valley, belonging to Mr Ellery,was burnt do -n this morning. It was insured in the Tram atlantio for £125. MiningThe Cromwell Mine sent down a cake weighing 3170 z, obtained from 290 tons, for a fortnight’s crushing. Supposed Infanticide. The body of an apparently newly born male child was found in a calico parcel off Princess street this morning. Fire. A four-roomed house at Upper Kaikorai, occupied by Mr John McLeod, was burned down this morning. The house was insured, but the amount has not been ascertainable.
