COURSING.

THE WATERLOO OUP. [PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.] TAPAHUI, June 22. A very hard frost lasting all night delayed the start for the coursing ground. It was 10.15 a.m. before the first brace of dogs were in the slips. By that time the sun was shining brightly and the weather was beautiful. A start was made with the first round of the Puree. Directly Banshee and Furrier were put in the slips a hare was put up, and they were sent away to a long slip. Banshee, who was a strong favorite, put in a lot of work. Furrier only scoring by favour until some ploughed ground waa reached, when he took the lead. This advantage, however, was soon lost, and Banshee won very easily. Lady Ellen showed more pace than Homily in the run up. The latter was the favorite at sto 4. The hare took a course mostly out of eight, but from what could be seen Lady Ellen was always in possession and working in good form. Homily seemed unable to keep pace with his opponent. Eclipse wag backed at 6 to 4 against Sybil. They had a splendid run up to a strong hare. Eclipse getting slightly the better of it. Sybil scored two or three wrenches, bat Eclipse, who was not idle, got the turn. The hare taking through a fence, Eclipse got stuck, and Sybil continued the hunt alone. Eclipse won with a few points to spare. There was not much difference in the run np between Queen of the Seas and Sleight-of-hand. When at close work, however, the Queen had matters pretty much her own way. The course was a short one, and did not afford much work. What was done was in favor oE the winner. Master Walter and Skiddaw Lass ran a short course. The bitoh bad a slight advantage in the run up, but when getting at work she tumbled and let the dog in, but he had barely time to get a wrench when the Lass was busy at work. She won a short course very easily, Matter Walter scarcely scoring at all, Talbot running wide. Aster got a big lead and turned twice in fall eight. The quarry then took to the swamp, the dog following. Aster held possession to the finish. Miss Lucy and Magician being drawn lame, Strongbow and Legerdemain ran byes. A pretty course between Rose of Denmark and Desdemona followed. The former had the best of the run up, and then turned twice, Desdemona being favored by the hare scored once or twice, bnt Rose again got in, and some give and take work ensued. Rose had manifestly the best of it all through, and was never in trouble. Mick ran a bye, Lancashire Lad being drawn. The course was a splendid one, Miok showing rattling form in a regular grueller, Le Loup was backed at 2tol to boat Harmony. The result showed that the odds should have been the other way. The hare led the way with the speed of a greyhound over the fiat country. Harmony showed a slight advantage, and turned. What work was seen was nearly done by Harmony. Lo Loup got in at the end, but too late. Bide-a-Wea ran a bye, and thus finished the first round of the Purse. Waterloo Purse of £75 10s, for doge beaten in the first round of the Cap. The bitch coming scored a go-byo and put in several points ; then the dog got in, but turning suddenly, rolled over. Luna took charge again and was very busy, but Rhododendron was not to be denied, and was coursing with determination when he fell again. This gave Luna another chance, which she availed herself of. Rhododendron got in again and killed; both scored well. Glenlora and Scafield ran an undecided course. Three to one was offered on Miranda against Kathleen. The former got a little the best of 'the run up. Kathleen then got in and scored a few points, but Miranda bad always a little the best of a sharp course, and wound up with a go-bye and kill. One of the shortest courses of the meeting was between Parmesan and Briton Still, The latter was first up, turned and killed, doing all the work. In running off the undecided Soafield wont wide in the load up, and the black bitch had matters all her own way until near to the end of a severe course, when the dog got in and killed before he commenced to balance accounts. A strong dodging hare was started for Jeannette and Champagne Charlie. The latter led up and showed a good pace throughout, but the bitch, worked the smarter and won a well contested course with a kill. An exciting course followed between Don Carlos and Scamp. The former was the favorite at any odds, bnt Scamp evidently pushed him hard, though, the judge’s verdict was—“ Won all the way.” Thi Cup—Third round. Luna boat Rhododendron Miranda boat Kathleen Briton Still boat Parmesan Glenlora beat Soafield Jeannette beat Champagne Charlie Don Carlos heat Scamp. The second round of the Purse commenced by Lady Ellen and Banshee being slipped to a strong hare. Banshee showed wonderful speed in the run up, and turned and wrenched all alone. Puss taking to cover, Lady Ellon was first to pick it up. Banshee disposed her, and hod all the best of the finishing course* and notwithstanding she had lost a toe. Eclipse had all the best of the first part of the course with Queen of the Seas. The course was a very long one, and after a while the fine condition of the latter enabled her to take charge of the hare and score a victory, after an interesting course, There was a magnificent course between Aster and Skiddaw Lass. The hare led through a swamp, and first one dog and then the other got nosighted, but both did a lot of work, and continued the course over a mile away. Aster appeared to have the most speed of the two. The judge ruled an undecided. Legerdemain, on whom G to 4 was loid, got the first turn when slipped with Strongbow. Then the latter got in and scored a little, bnt the brindlo gave her the go-bye, and, working with fire, had all the best of the finish of a long course. Mick waa a slightly better favorite than Rose of Denmark. Immediately on being slipped both dogs got unsighted in the tussocks, but picked the hare up quickly. An equal course ensued for a long stretch up to the foot of the mountain, and the dogs contested for honors. First one then the other was in possession, but in the end the black dog was adjudged the winner by a few points. Aster and Skiddaw Lass were started to run off their undecided course, but the hare got lost in the tussocks, and no course resulted. On being slipped for the third time Skiddaw Lass waa declared victorious. The Purse— Second round. Banshee beat Lady Ellon Queen of the Seas boat Eclipse Legerdemain boat Strongbow Mick beat Bose of Denmark Skiddaw Lass boat Aster Harmony boat Bide-a-woo
