The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England is £16,000,000, and Consols remain at lOOf; New Zealand 5 per cent 10-40 loan, 105 ; New Zealand 5 per cent 1889 loan, 105; New Zealand 4f per cent 1879-1904 loan, 103. The Bank rate of discount remains at 21 per cent, and the market rate at If, Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, 48s 6d; New Zealand wheat, 45s 6d; Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 345; Australian tallow, best beef, 34s 6d; best mutton, 36s 6d. At the wool sale to-day 11,500 bales were catalogued. A firmer demand was again experienced.

The Irish Land Bill. I In the House o£ Commons the first clause of the Irish Land Bill, referring to the classification of tenants, which had been under discussion since the 31st ult., was passed through Committee to-day. Consideration of the second clausa of the Bill has been commenced. Precautionary. The “ Daily News,” to-day, publish a paragraph stating that the English Government has sent a communication to the United States Government, calling attention to the present nature and extent of the Fenian movement in England, and requesting that steps may be taken to prevent the operations of Fenians in America. The Panama Eavvies. Telegrams are to hand from Panama reporting that there is considerable discontent, and consequent disorganisation, among the employes on the Canal works, and that the same are thereby being seriously impeded. The news requires confirmation.
