LOCAL BODIES' CONFERENCE.
[PBBSB ASSOCIATION TnLEQEASI.] WELLINGTON, June 13. The following resolutions have been passed by the Local Bodies' Conference, moved by Mr Gisborne, seconded by Mr Danielle—(l.) " That Crown lands and buildings should be rated, and the proceeds equitably distributed among local bodies in the district in which the rate is raised." (2.) "That County Councils be subsidised by the colony at per mile of main road maintained by them." (3.) " That County Councils should have a representative on Waste Lands Boards." (4 ) " That in counties consisting chiefly of goldfields the 20 per cent, land revenue taken away by the Financial Arrangements Act, 1880, should be restored to County Councils." Proposed by Mr Carson, Beoonded by Mr Phillips—" That a subsidy of £ for £on ox. nenditure on new works approved by the Government be granted to local bodies for the construction only of now works, such ae roads, bridges, &o." Moved by Mr Linton, seconded by Mr Carson —" That the chairman and members of the Conference be a deputation to the Government with resolutions passed by the Conference, and to press upon the Government the advisability of the principles embodied therein being legislated upon during the coming session." The following resolution was also agreed to :—" That the 11th clause in the Land Act Amendment Act, 1879, should be repealed, so that the whole half-yearly instalments on deferred payment lands should be handed over to the County Oounoil as for road making within the blook dealt with, as provided in the Land Act, 1877, clause 59." A vote of thanks was passed to the chairman and Mr McArthur, who originated the Conference.
