Only a few members came by the Bingarooma and Wanaka yesterday North and South, and the lobbies to-day were almost deserted. Very little political gossip is stirring. It is rumored that a sort of small preliminary meeting was held to-day by some members of the Opposition, including Sir G. Grey, Messrs Hutchison, Speight, and Andrews, with a view to taking steps for moving an amendment on the Address in Beply. It is said that Sir G. Grey wishes to move an amendment censuring Ministers for their conduct in regard to Patetere, but that the other members are in favor of waiting until later in the session, in the hope of tripping the Government on various questions of administration. Possibly considerations of the approaching eleotion have something to do with these different views, as Sir G. Grey's return is safe in any case, but it is not so with his followers. However, it is tolerably certain that if anything of the kind is attempted at this early stage of the session, it will fail, as members of all shades of opinion seem desirous that nothing should be done until everything is before the House, when issue might be ioined on the full question of confidence in the Government.
