tm^ IhWIIIIIHB [PEKSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.] WELLINGTON, June 11. The Hon. W. Gisborne has given notice that, during the present sitting of the conference of delegates representing the local governing bodies in New Zealand he will move the following motions —(1) That Crown lands should be rated, and the proceeds equitably distributed among the local governing bodies. (2) That County Councils be subsidised by the colony at per mile of main roads maintained by such Councils. (3) That a County Council chairman be ex officio a member of the Wasto Lands Board having jurisdiction over the county. (4) That 20 per cont. of the land revenue taken away by the Financial Arrangements Act, 1880, should be restored to County Councils. At to-day's meeting of the Conference the following motion by Mr McArthur was carried—" That it is absolutely necessary that some assistance in the shape of subsidy should be given to local bodies to enablo them to complete the construction of roads within districts heretofore sold by the Government and wholly or partially settled, the Government having failed to provide for these necessary works out of the proceeds of the sale of such district in times past."
