CANTERBURY OLTJB. The final trial of the Publicans' Plate was arranged to be run off on Saturday morning in the South Park, at 10 o'clock, but the heavy downpour rendering it impossible, it was further deferred till this morning. Accordingly, a little before 10 o'clock knots of layers of the leash could be seen wending their way to the tryst, and at 10.30 the two dogs, to whom the final trial was confided —viz., Mr O. Adkid's Matchem and Mr Butler's Van Dieman—wero put in the slips, and beaters being put into the plantation, a hare was speedily started, and yet another, but as the dogs could not be sighted, they stole away. The thiro hare running fair, the rivals were liberated to a fair slip, Van leading to pass and turning to Matchem, who never after allowed " the lag" a chanoe, and driving to the plantation, scored a win by two poicts. The Publicans' Plate—For an unlimited number of all-aged dogs at £5 5s each, with piece of plate presented by the publicans of Ohriatchureh. Closed with 10 subscribers. Winner, .£3O and piece of plate; runner-up, .£ls ; third dog, £5. Final Cour-e.

Mr O. Adkin's v d Matchem, by Regent— Butterfly, beat Mr P. Butler's w d "Van Dieman, by My Fancy—Sea Gem, and won the stake and cup. The win was a decidedly popular one, Mr Adkin being loudly cheered on returning with the old dog. Mr Wise was judge and Mr Turner slipper, and the manner in which their duties were performed gave every satisfaction.
