A man named George Braokenehiro, who was accidentally run over by tho train at Normanby yesterday, and who was brought into the town last night, had his right leg amputated, but he gradually sank, and died at halt-past twelve to-day. WELLINGTON, June 9. Opening of Parliament. Parliament was opened by the Governor in person at two o’clock. There were eighteen members of the Legislative Council and twenty-four of the House of Representatives present. Also a large number of ladies. The 1 Governor wore the collar and robes of Knight Grand Cross of St. Michael and St. George. The business of each House was purely formal. Both Houses adjourned till to* morrow. TlfllAßtF, June 9. The Unemployed. An adjourned meeting of the unemployed was held to-day. The men proceeded in a body to interview the Mayor re the laying of the water pipes. The Mayor said he could not proceed with this work until the fittings had arrived from Home, but in the meantime, any man could have a job at stone breaking if he liked. A list was then prepared of the unemployed, stating whether married or single, number of family (if an), and how long out of work. This, Mr Turnbull, the member, promised to take to Wellington with him to-day, and urge upon the Government the necesity of taking immediate steps to relieve the distress.
