MR J. C. BROWN, M.H.R., AT WAITAHUNA.
[PBBSB ASSOCIATION TBPEOSAM.] DUNEDIN, June 7. Mr J. C. Brows, M.H.R. for Tuapeka, addressed his constituents at Waitahuna on Monday night. He criticised the manner of tho retrenchment adopted by the Government adversely. It was a rule of thumb system that any schoolboy might have adopted. Heads of departments ckouid have been consulted, and their offices done away with and amalgamated. How came it that two heads of departments could now be spared to travel over the country seeking information ? It their work could be carried on in their absonoa it was a proof there was room for amalgamation, Mr Pyke had done a good work in opei.ing a land crusade, and ha ridiculed the idea of Mr Hall favoring the opening of land and tho cutting up of runs. Ail that gentleman’s previous history showed that, like’ Sir Dilion Bell, he was a friend of the -squatter. He spoke strongly also of tho necessity of resuming nominated immigration. A vote of continued confidence was passed.
