[PBB PEESS association,] TIM ABU, June 4. Malicious Assault. A Dutchman named Henry Leema, cook on board the barque Andes, now lying in the Timaru roadstead, was arrested this morning by Detective Kirby on a charge of stabbing a messmate. Leema came ashore yesterday, got some drink, and on returning to the ship quarrelled with one of the sailors, fought and stabbed him in the head with a tin-opener, inflicting a severe wound. Dr. Chilton was on board, and sewed up the wound. Leema will be brought up at the Resident Magistrate’s Court on Monday. DUNEDIN, June 4. Shipping. The Cotopaxi sailed for Plymouth on May 28th with 323 passengers. Wound up. The Wakatip Steam Company, after a stormy meeting, agreed to wind up. The absence of steam communication on the Lake is much felt. Inquest. At the inquest on Martin Brennan a verdict was returned of “ Found drowned.” Mining. The Homeward Bound claim at Macetown sent down a cake of 170 ounces, got from 210 tons. The Gladstone’s cake is estimated at over 400 ounces.
