London Wool ExhibitionThe International wool show at the Crystal Palace was opened to-day by the Duke of Connaught, in the presence of a vast assemblage of people, and in his speech on the occasion, his Royal Highness dwelt at length upon the importance of the staple then on exhibition. The only exhibitors representing the Australian colonies are Sir Samuel Wilson, of Victoria, and Messrs Fisher and Pitts, of Adelaide. Some of the exhibits are not yet opened, hut it is expected that the greater portion will be on view in a fortnight. The awards are to bo made in August. The Markets. Consols remain at 102-J-. The Bank and market rates of discount remain respectively at 2-i- and !■§• per cent. The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England is £14,750,000. New Zealand securities are unchanged. For best sides of Australian hides prices are firm, especially for heavy hips.
