Mr Gladstone has announced in the House of Commons that the Ministry will stake the existence of the Government on the passing of the Irish Land Bill. The iron armour-plated ship Nelson, twelve guns, sails for Australia in June to take her place on the Australian station. Notification is published in the “ London Gazette," intimating that degrees of the Adelaide University rank equally with degrees of the British Universities. May 19. Midhat Pasha, who was accused of complicity in the murder of the late Sultan, Abdul Aziz, has surrendered himself to the Turkish authorities on condition of having a fair trial accorded him. Prince Gortschakoff has again taken office as Minister for Foreign Affairs in Russia, Biots have occurred in Italy in consequence of the formation of the Sella Cabinet, the members of which are not popular. Street preaching has been prohibited in Calcultta, unless by persona duly licensed. A missionary has refused to obey the mandate, and a process has been issued for his arrest. May 22. The arrest of Father Sheehy, for using seditious language, has caused increased excitement in Ireland. Four hundred soldiers who were enforcing evictions in Tipperary, were badly treated by the peasantry. The soldiers, in defence, were about to use their firearms, when several priests rushed in front of the levelled rifles and guaranteed to keep order. The treaty between Russia and Khiva has been’ratified. There has been a stampede of Jews from Southern Russia. May 23. Hostilities have broken out in tho Transvaal between the Boers and Kaffirs, and in an engagement which has taken place seventy Kaffirs were killed, Tho Boers are plundering the Kaffirs. [ A strong Nihilist speech has bsen delivered in Paris, which has caused soma uneasiness to the authorities. Lord Selbourne, the Lord Chancellor, has introduced in the House of Lords a Bill to facilitate the arrest of offenders escaping from tho colonies charged with certain offences, which include treason end felony, but are not limited to these charges. Michael Brennon, secretary of tho Irish Land League, has been arrested in Dublin on a charge of inciting to violence by inflammatory speeches. The treaty entered into by France with the Bey of Tunis has been almost unanimously condemned by the Chamber of Deputies in Paris.
