Coffee Palace ProjectThe prospectus is published of the proposed coffee palace, and the capital of the company is £20,000 in £1 shares. It is intended to erect a building combining the advantages of a good temperance hotel for families, with the special features of a coffee palace. Temperance Lecture. Dr. Wallis delivered a leoture before the New Zealand Alliance in the Temnerance Hall to a meagre audience on “ Local Option and Compensation to Publicans.” His views did not give satisfaction to either teetotallers or publicans, as be favored local option, but would give compensation. WELLINGTON, Hay 28. Public HousesAt the Licensing Court four applications for new licenses will be made. It is understood that the police intend opposing the granting of any fresh licenses, on the ground that the hotels in the city are already more than equal to the requirements. EEEFTON, May 29. PoliticalMr Fitzgerald’s meeting last night was well attended, and the usual vote of confidence was carried. Mr Weston has issued his address to the electors. He supports Harbor Works at Greymont hand the Bast and West Coast Railway, reform in the procedure of the Courts, and declares himself Liberal and progressive in all matters of colonial concern. The Tararua WreckThe Good Templar, schooner, has returned from the scene of the Tararua wreck. There was a very heavy sea all the time she was there, and she had her boats washed away.
