A Colonial IrregularityIn tlio House o£ Commons to-day, a question was put to tho Under-Secretary of State for tho Colonies regarding information which has transpired as to certain expenditure incurred by the Treasurer and Controller of tho revenue in Western Australia without due authority. In reply, Mr Grant Duff said that the circumstances connected with the unauthorised payments had been under the consideration of the Government, and instructions would be sent to the Governor of the colony with a view to prevent any future irregularities in the expenditure of public money by the Treasurer. The Markets. Consols have declined to 102*. New Zealand securities are unchanged. Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, has advanced to 495, and New Zealand to 455. Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, remains at 3.3 s 6d. The total quantity of wheat afloat for tho United Kingdom is 2,040,000 quarters. Australian best mutton tallow has advanced to 375; best beef remains at 34s 6d. WoolAt the wool auction to-day 9000 bales were offered. The tone of the sale was strong. Inferior and faulty wools of all kinds were less depressed, and there was more enquiry for crossbred and scoured sorts.
