FOOTBALL.
CHRISTCHURCH CLUB. The match played by the Christchurch Football Club on Saturday was West v East, captained respectively by Million and Anderson. It was very apparent before commencing that tho West quite overmatched the East, so the latter were strengthened by College boys and a few Reds. Millton kicked off for the Reds against a pretty strong wind. The game was evenly contested the first epell, although the Bods (West) pressed the Blues once or twice very hard, but, by good play on the part of Blues, the Reds failed to score. The Blues in the second spell warmed up better and played well together, although against a strong wind. They held their ground wonderfully well, but failed to ooore, owing to the smart play of Helmore and Redmayno. The third spell was very evenly contested, neither side gaining any advantage. In the fourth spell the Reds had the advantage of a strong breeze. The first ten minutes’ play was kept pretty well in the middle of the ground. At this stage some of the Blues left, and after this they began to play rather loose. Pratt, by following up well, managed to obtain a touch-down, the kick being entrusted to Millton.who failed to convert it into a goal, although an easy try. After this the game was kept within the twenty-five yards of the Blue goal line. The Reds scored one touch-down to tho Blues nil. For the Reds, Helmore, Redmayne and Ootterill, as backs, Millton, Potts, Pratt, and Morgan, os forwards, played well. For the Blues, W. Ootterill, Boys, as backs, Williams and Bolton, as forwards, played well. There are a number of young members of this club pro-. raising to be very good players. PILGRIMS’ CLUB. The Pilgrims’ Club match on Saturday was A to K (wearing gold and black) v L to Z (wearing blue and white), the former being captained by F. Fuller and the latter by O. F. Bowley. There was a very good muster of members on both sides. Bowley winning the toss, chose the southern goal, and Fuller kicked off for tho golds. Both sides were on the ball at once. Some very good forward play was shown, but the golds by some good runs by the quarter backs managed to get the ball well into the blues 25yds. Fuller eventually obtaining a touchdown, the try at goal was a failure. The next spell was very evenly contested, Bowley securing a try for his side, and De Castro one for the golds. Both tries were again unsuccessful. In the third spell the golds keeping well on the ball penned their adversaries to their goal line, Kesteven securing another touchdown for the golds, which Fuller converted into a goal. The last spell was again very hotly contested, the golds, however, proving too much for their opponents, Atack and Muter each securing a touchdown. Fuller scoring another goal from Atack’s try. A very enjoyable game thus ended in a victory for the A to K (or golds) by two goals and three tries to one try. For the blues, Sband, J. Hills and Woledge played well together in the scrimmages, Henry and Bussell playing well as backs. For the golds, Kesteven, Aludk and Blanchard • did good service forward, while Fuller and De Castro were very good behind the scrimmages. RAVENS’ CLUB. The above club played a most enjoyable game on Saturday afternoon, there being a good attendance of members, the game being A to LvMto Z, Although both sides struggled hard the latter had tho best of the game, scoring one goal and two tries against one goal
