CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB.

A meeting of the members of the Canterbury Jockey Club was held on Saturday, at 2.30 p.m., at the Commercial Hotel. Present—Messrs H. P. Lance (chairman), 0. H. Williams, Acland, G. O. Stead, 8. Garforth, Brabazon, A. O. Wilson, G. P. Williams, and Dr. Prins. The chairman brought up the Spring programme as recommended by the comnfittee. The committee had gone through the programme of last year and adopted it in its entirety. The only alteration made was in tho time of closing the handicaps, which had been changed from 7 to 8 p.m, It had been debated whether the Maiden Handicap should be struck out, as it had not filled well; but it had been decided that another trial should be given to the race. Some discussion ensued as to the advertising of tho race meetings, and Mr Stead suggested that if arrangements were made with Mr Donne to advertise the races on the railway it would be far more advantageous to the club. Some desultory conversation took place, and ultimately Mr C. H. Williams moved the adoption of the programme, which was seconded by Dr. Prins, and carried. A letter was read from tho D.J.0., forwarding the disqualification of Harding and Miss Domett on account of tho cheque forwarded for entrance money being dishonored. It was resolved that the disqualification be endorsed. Mr Armson wrote, thanking the club for the honor done by them in electing him a life member of the club. Tho chairman stated that Mr Griffith had agreed to accept the sum of £IOO per year as handicapper, and he had also agreed to resign his position as member of the club while ho hold the position of handicapper. Dr. Prins gave notice of an alteration of rules so as to have a rule rendering any member holding a paid office in connection with the club ineligible to be a member during the time of holding such appointment. It was resolved— “ That Mr Griffith be paid a salary of £IOO for his services as handicapper to tho O. J.C. during the racing year of 1881-2.”
