Calvert, The first meeting of this newly-formed coursing club commenced yesterday at Yaldhurst, where all parties concerned met at about nine o’clock, at Pranks’ Hotel, whence an adjournment was made to tho farm of Mr B. Bailey, about five miles further. Tho events comprised the Pappy Stakes, for which ten entries had been received, and the All Aged Stakes. The attendance was good, at least 200 persons being present. Proceedings was initiated by Little Nell and Bashful Maid being slipped shortly before ten o’clock for the first course of the first round of the Puppy Stakes. Tho former led up to a weak bare, and after a good course killed and scored. Master Tom and Spy followed, and a rattling course resulted in Spy scoring. Harewood and Sea Foam then tried conclusions, and the former had the best of it. Pun and Magic ran an undecided course, after which Flyer easily disposed of Augustus Sala. For the All aged Stakes Pinfiro led Wheel of Fortune to the hare, and had it all his own way. Mark Lemon showed Lord Raglan his heels, and won a good course, followed by Estelle and Sweep, in which the slut led, and after a good course Sweep scored by two points. The course between Fan and Magic in tho Puppy Stakes was then resumed, resulting in the former scorinp. A grand course next ensued between Black Cap and Black Boy, in which tho former ran canning, and finally the latter scored. Next Matohem beat Orphan, and Zoe disposed of Gassy, who was altogether out of condition. The last course of the day resulted in Bab beating Rover in a good course, in which the old dog ran well, buCthe slut proved the victor. Several dogs broke during tho day, and their owners had the satisfaction of paying the usual penalty to the funds. Sport will be resumed to-day at Mr Saunders’ farm. We append results:— Puppy Stakes, for an unlimited number of puppies at £1 la each, 10s 6d forfeit ; 16 subscribers; 10 acceptances. Winner, £lO ; runner up, £5 ; third dog, £3. FIRST ROUND.
