Thomas Brennan, secretary to the Land League, and a mercantile clerk in Dublin, has been arrested upon a warrant issued by the Viceroy, under the provisions of tho Coercion Act. Honors.
Her Majesty the Queen has conferred the honor of Knighthood upon the Hon. C. Lilley, Chief Justice of Queensland; Hon. James Prendergast, Chief Justice of New Zealand; and John Gorrie, Chief Justice of Fiji. The Grand Cross of St. Michael and St. George has been conferred upon Sir Arthur Kennedy, Governor of Queensland. Sir F. Dillon Bell, Agent-General for New Zealand, and the Hon. H. A. Palmer, Colonial Secretary for Queensland, are created Commanders, and the Hon. M. Fraser, Sur-veyor-General of South Australia, a Companion of the same Order. Prince Leopold has been created Duke of Albany.

CALCUTTA, May 23. The i fghan Embroglio.
Intelligence has been received from Afghanistan that Ayoub Khan has openly announced his intention of seizing Candahar. It is, however, reported that such movement on his part will meet with general resistance from the inhabitants of the city and surrounding districts. The Ameer Abdur Rahman is making active preparations for the struggle.
