Palmer, Colonial Secretary for Queensland, are created Commanders, and the Hon. M. Fraser, Sur-veyor-General of South Australia, a Companion of the same Order. Prince Leopold has been created Duke of Albany.

CALCUTTA, May 23. The i fghan Embroglio.

Intelligence has been received from Afghanistan that Ayoub Khan has openly announced his intention of seizing Candahar. It is, however, reported that such movement on his part will meet with general resistance from the inhabitants of the city and surrounding districts. The Ameer Abdur Rahman is making active preparations for the struggle.
