LYTTELTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
This Council met at 7.15 p.m. on Monday to pass the annual statement of the borough accounts. There were present—the Mayor, and Crs. Maodonald, Beed, Webb, Grubb, Weyburne. On the resolution [of Or. Macdoaald the accounts as submitted were approved, and the signature of the Mayor attached thereto. The new building bylaw, providing that nothing but brick buildings can be erected within certain defined boundaries under a penalty was adopted on the motion of Or Beed, seconded by Cr Weyburne. A communication from the Government was read to the effect that the clock in the Government Buildings would be lighted for four hours every night. It was left with the lighting committee to give effect thereto. Mr F. B. Passmore's offer to plant fifty acres of the Council's reserve at the Bakaia with blue gam, plough it, and fence it, taking therefor Crown grant from Government of two acres for every acre planted when the gum troes have grown to the a : ze requ'red by the Act, was adopted. A letter was read from the District Engineer of Railways, informing the Counoil that the cost of putting in the siding at Officer's Point would be £312 ; conditions under which such work could be done were also stated; and these the estates' committer, after consideration, reported as being altogether too onesided to be entertained by the Council. The report of the oommittee was agreed to.
