The Customs duties collected at Christchurch on Tuesday. May 17th, wore as follows : Spirits, .£155 13s lOd ; tobacco, J 695 lls; wine, .£l3 2s 6d; beer, £6 5a ; sugar, £4 18s ; goods by weight, £sl la Id ; ad valorem, 9s ; other duties, £lB Is 6d. Total, £345 Is lid. WOOL SALES. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited report, under data London, May 17th, 1881 Wool—The sales progress firmly. Up to date, 50,000 bales have been sold. There is an active demand on German account, bnt French demand is moderate. Competition on Belgian account is active. Home buyers are not -operating with spirit. Competition is increasing, and market is firmer. Seedy and burry wools are neglected. Crossbred, good quality, light in grease, has advanced to Id per lb ; coarse crossbred, market easier; combing, washed, market unchanged; clothing, washed, market easier; long staple merino, scoured, market firmer.
