HAWEEA, May 18, Constabulary and Natives. Rumours of a disturbance near Pungarehu between tho Armed Constabulary ond the Natives. It is stated that the latter beat a constable and a civilian. The Armed Constabulary retaliated, and it is stated burned a Native whare. It is believed that the matter has been reported to the Government, and that they have ordered an investigation. DUNEDIN. Mr Webster, chief officer of tho Te Anau, is appointed to the command of the Hero. Captain Logan is going Home. Suicide. EJPeter Hodge Kirk, expressman, lastnight committed suicide by hanging. On his body a letter was found stating that the cause of tho act was his separation from his wife and family. Last week his wife sued him tor maintenance. The letter added—" I suppose tho jury will bring in insanity, but 1 am not insane—never was.”
