PROPOSED FROZEN MEAT COMPANY.

[PBBSS ASSOCIATION TELBGEAM ] DUNEDIN, May 11. The -meat freezing committee of the Chamber of Commerce met this afternoon to receive the report of Mr Wales os his visit to the meat refrigerating works in Victoria and New South Wales. Mr Wales handed in a lengthy report of what ho had soon, and after detailing points of difference between the Qiffard and Coleman and Bell machines recommended the latter. He concluded, “ the site for the proposed works should be as near to the port of shipment as possible, providing that sufficient accommodation and good water are available for the cattle and sheep and for slaughtering purposes. It is absolutely necessary that the railway should be connected with the works, and that the trucks should be loaded in the bnilding. It the works are within from twenty to thirty miles of a port, a depot there would not be needed, as the meat could be carried from the trucks direct to the ship. The total cost of the undertaking can only be till the site is determined on, but the necessary buildings, of the extent and constructed as indicated, and including two freezing machines, _ boilers, boiler house and machine rooms, chimney and slaughter-yards, will cost about £7OOO. If two No. I machines, or ono _No, 2 machine, is thought to be sufficient about £6OOO would cover the cost of the necessary buildings and plant. After discussion the following resolution was agreed to—“ That the report be printed and circulated in Otago and Canterbury, and that the committee bring up a report in fourteen days’ time to be submitted to a general meeting to be held for the further consideration of the project, and for the adoption of a prospectus ; all necessary information to be in the meantime obtained and the prospectus to bo drawn up by a committee, consisting of the Hon. M. Holmes, Messrs Shand, Bees, Huberts, and Wales.”
