LYTTELTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of this Council was held on Monday night, when there were present—The Mayor, and Crs. Macphorson, Macdonald, Hawkins, Heed, Qarforth, Webb, Grubb. Weyburae. A telegram was read from the Under-Secrofary for Hallways, Mr N. W. Werry, in reference to the aiding at Officer’s Point. The Mayor said nothing could be done in the matter until the cost of the siding was ascertained. A letter from the chairman of the Hangitiki Connty Council re taking joint action to have the arrangements reformed for government by local bodies was ordered to bo acknowledged. The foreman of works was instructed to supply Mr E. J. S. Harman wiih particulars of cost of improvements made on Yoela’e road. Mr P. B. Passmore’s letter respecting the planting of the Council’s reserve at the Eakaia was read, and as it appeared that that gentleman had offered to plant the fifty acres at 2 per acre, the clerk was instructed to communicate with him on the subject. Messrs Hughes and Co.’s application for permission to deposit building material on Canterbury street, in front of the site for the new Masonic lodge for the Canterbury Kilwinning, was granted. It was decided that a public pound be established on tho Sumner road, near Sticking Point. Mr Passmore’s lease from tho Council was duly signed, also tho transfer of lease from Mr Austin to Mr Quooieo. Accounts amounting to J 0.42 16s lid wore passed. Ee new building by-law, a draft of the proposed new law was laid on tho table, and a special meeting is to be bold on the 23rd instant to consider same. Several recommendations for local improvements presented by Councillors wore refer, cd tj the works committee.
