Broken WristA boy named Albert Kirkman, while cleaning windows on the second floor o£ Mr Aickcn’a medical establishment, incautiously stopped upon and fell through the glass of a verandah to the pavement beneath, and fractured his loft wrist. Skipping. The barque Fern, which arrived from London last evening, reports a vessel, either a brig or a brigantine, ashore at Little Barrier, the sails loose and fore-topmast gone; apparently abandoned. She is supposed to be the schooner Policeman, Captain Champion, from Norfolk Island and Noumea via Bussell. A schooner is observed making far here. Population. , The census returns show an extraordinary increase in Auckland City and suburbs. The population within the borough limits (which include only 650 acres) is 17,730, or an increase of 3972 in three years. The population of the suburbs surrounding brings up the aggregate population of the city and suburbs to 38.735, being an inc-Oise of 9377 since the last census. The papulation of the provincial district is roughly estimated at 95,000, or an increase of 12,339 sines 1878. WELLINGTON, May 4. Remanded. Borfleld, the attempted bank burglar, has been brought up at the Magistrate’s Court, Tauranga, and remanded till Friday. DUNEDIN, May 5. Tararua Inquiry Adjourned. The Tararua inquiry is adjourned until Tuesday, on account of inability to serve the statutory notices on the officers.
