Self-Stabbing. A man named Michael Quirk stabbed himself in the abdomen in the Park this morning. He is supposed to bemad, and is not expected to recover. He had been working in the Waimato bush until Friday last. He was committed to Sunnyside for lunacy from I drink in 1877. The Amaranth Foundered. The Amaranth, schooner, fifty-one tons, commanded by Captain Colin Campbell, whioh arrived on Wednesday last with seventy tons of Brunner Company coal from _ Greymouth, foundered on Sunday morning during a strong gale. She dragged both anchors, and was thrown against tbe Circe, leaving most of her rigging behind. The mate, and crew of four men, abandoned the Amaranth, and got oji board the barquontine. The Amaranth was owned by Messrs Guthrie and Larnach. Only one boat-load of ooal had been discharged when she went ashore. She is now stranded on the beach at Milford Lagoon, to the north of Timaru. The schooner and cargo are valued at £IOOO. WANGANTJI, May 2. Fatal Railway AccidsntA man named Thoe. Carroll, farm laborer, was run over and killed at Eaiiwi by the Northern train on Saturday night. It is not known whether the man was walking on the line or had laid down, the accident not being known until the driver happened to notice something dragging on the engine.
