[per press association.] AUCKLAND, April 27. Lady Gordon-
On the arrival of the City of Sydney the Hon F, Whitaker, Mr J. M. Clarke (Mayor), Mr Seymour George, M.H.8., and several ladies who had known Lady Gordon at Fiji or in Auckland, proceeded in the Customs launch to meet her ladyship. Lady Gordon, with the Misses Gordon, Oapt. Knollys (aide-de-camp to Sir Arthur Gordon), and her mite, were conveyed in the launch to the wharf. There a carriage was waiting, in which Lady Gordon and family proceeded to Onehunga, reaching there about three o’clock. The Hon. Attorney-General having arrived shortly before, escorted her ladyship down the wharf and on board the Hinemoa. Lady Gordon and family remained on board the steamer all night, and left to-day for Wellington. Circus Profits.
Cole’s Circus is stated to have netted £40,000 by its tour. Mr Cole took back besides his menagerie many more animals, including twelve kangaroos, twelve emus, 500 oarrots, and a number of other Australian birds.

Bishop Moran, of Dunedin, was welcomed by the Catholic clergy here when transhipping for Europe yesterday.
Lockjaw.
David Olphert, a young man, aged eighteen, died suddenly of lockjaw. He ran a nail in bis foot a fortnight ago, but paid no attention to it, and went to business as usual. WELLINGTON, April 27. Statistics.
The census returns for Wellington City show a population of 20,535. The previous census was 19,037. There are 3817 inhabited houses, and 421 empty ones. The previous census showed 175 Chinamen in the city ; the number is now 62. The inhabitants of Wellington electoral country district number 4227.

A man named Sutherland jumped off the Southern goods train to-day while in motion, and dislocated hie shoulder.

The County Council intend erecting offices, and lately offered a bonus of £2O for an approved plan. There wore seven competitors, the plan of Mr J. Johnston being accepted. RacecourseThe Racecourse Trust intend communicating with the Government with the view of having the racecourse reserve Crown granted to the trust. DUNEDIN, April 27. Tram Accident. Young Garrett, injured in the tramway accident, has not yet recovered consciousness.
