Bees, solicitor, has laid another information against Mr Wickham, proprietor of the "Free Lanoe," for a leading article in Saturday's isßue, as being offensive, and published for the purpose of annoyance and provo - cation. Settling up. At the Bottling for the races, the winnings of the various owners were paid as follows : Mr McDonald, £274 ; Mr Butherford, £95 ; Mr Horsfall, £116; Mr Owen, £142; Mr Douglas, £52 ; Mr Smith, £57 ; Mr Lennard, £35 ; Mr Walters, £23 ; Mr Ellis, £l3 ; Mr Carina, £ll. Total, £873. A Pigtail Missing. Chinese residents are greatly exercised over the disappearance of a Chinaman. The police are under the impression that he has gone to the country for work. Boating Mishap. A boat containing four men capsized yesterday evening in Brick Bay, North Shore, being struck by a squall. Two of the men, Henry Drummond and Daniel O'Sullivan, were drowned. Drummond leaves a wife and three children ; O'Sullivan recently married. Jas. Allen and Joseph Dexgey, single men, saved themselves by swimming ashore. The police have been searching for the bodies unsuccessfully. NEW PLYMOUTH, April 25. Robbery.
A robbery has been committed at the Cape Egmont camp. The affair is enveloped in mystery. WELLINGTON, April 25. Table-Taming. Government intond to proseoute every person connected with the Mount View Asylum, against whom a prima facie case is disclosed in the evidence given bofore the late Commission. The Crown solicitors are carefully considering the evidence. Can Afford it.
Charles Lewis, steward of the Te Aro Club, has been summoned for selling liquor without a license. About a fortnight ago he was fined £2O on a charge of a similar nature. Tax Evading.
Numerous summonses are being issued against property tax defaulters in the country districts.
Driving Accident.
A fatal accident occurred at the Kaiwarra to-night. An old sat'ler at Tawa flat, named William Beckham, a carter, was driving home from town, and had to ford the Kaiwarra BtreaTi, the bridge being under repair. He, however, mistook the road to the ford, and it is supposed that in attempting to turn back the horse and cart slipped over the embankment. The cart was found by two men capsized in the stream, and on a search being made Peckham was found underneath, life being extinot. Deceased had a nasty gash on his forehead. He leaves a wife and a large family. An inquest will be hsld. GREYMOUTH, April 25. Mrs McGahey. Mrs M'Gahey has petitioned the Government for means to enable her to leave Reefton. Since the fatal occurrence she has been stopping at the police camp. Up to the present the police have been unable to find any trace of the gun with which the murder is supposed to have been committed. The money found in M'Gahey's possession is satisfactorily accounted for. Reduction. Messrs Seed and Batkin arrived here tonight. TIMARU, April 25.
Suicide. At the inquest to-day on the body of H. L. Nathßn, found dead in bed yesterday morning, a verdict " That deceased committed suicide by inhaling chloroform while suffering from temporary insanity," was returned. He left a letter which fully justified tho verdict. DUNEDIN, April 25. Beware!
The Deputy Property Tax Commissione* has been instructed to suo all defaulters.

At a meeting of the committee of tho Chamber of Commerce to-day, a deputation was appointed to wait on the directors of the Union Steam Ship Company, in order to ascertain how fur they deemed it practicable to establish a monthly line of steamers trading between Great Britain and New Zealand. Mr J. T. McEerras proposed that the Government should discontinue the subsidy granted to the San Francisco servieo, and instead grant one to a direct line of steamers. Lovely WomanA man named Cheshire, wardsman in the Queenstown Hospital, committed suicide by taking prussio acid. Jealousy was the cause. Confidence Bostored.
Traffic on the Roslyn tramline was resumed to-day as usual, and the line was well patronised. The gradient on that portion of the line where the accident occurred is 1 in 7i.
