FALSE RUMORS IN CHRISTCHURCH.
There is no truth in the rumor— That the small farmers or widows of Canterbury intend to petition the Home O overmnent to raise Mr W. W. Charters to the Peerage for services rendered. That Sir Geo, Grey has appointed tho ecitor of the Christchurch ‘ Press” his private secretary. That the “Star” and Herr Bandmann’a other Christchurch admirers have written to tho editor of the Wanaanni “Chronicle,” complimenting him on the racy article rcthe common wingless parasitic insect. That tha manager of a leading Christchurch hotel has forbidden gaudily attired females to hold levees in a back parlor hitherto consecrated to that object. That ex-Judge Weston, ex officio, would .ike to boss the West Coast Railway and public affairs generally.
