CRICKET.

MIDLAND CO. CLUB. The following are the first eleven averages of the M.C.O. for the past season, compiled from association and club matches. Watson heads the batting list with the good average of 28 runs per innings. It is rather singular that the batsman's average should Buffer through playing for his club. His average for association mutches alone stand at 371. The variety of the country bowling evidently aocounts for the falling off. His score of 175 runs against Otago is fresh in the minds of all lovers of the game. Of the other batsmen, J. Fo»ke, Frith, McDonnell, 8. Alpo, and Ataok have done good service. The howling has been done mostly by Fuller and W. Frith, who have trundled very well throughout the season. The fielding has shown an improvement compared with past seasons :

For Mesars Heytrood and Co, Mr Dixon made it very lively for the fieldsmen, his scores of 43 and 74 not out, being obtained in fine style. For the carriers, Mr Flowers' 75 went far towards winning them the match. A Muff Crioket Match, the closing game of the season, is to be played on the ground of the Rangiora Club to day.
