The residence of Mr Hancock, of the United Service Hotel, at Epsom, was totally destroyed by the explosion of a kerosene lump. Mr Hancook was absent, and Mrs Hancock got up to attend to a child, when the explosion occurred and set fire to a bed curtain, Mrs Hanoock having overturned the lamp. The flames spread so rapidly to the curtain and furniture that she only escaped in her night-drei s, and everything was lost. Mr Hancock was insured in the New Zealand for £I4OO on the house and furniture. This does not half cover the loss. NEW PLYMOUTH, April 21.
