AN ENGLISH OPINION OF MYERS.

Tho following is an advance slip from “ Pendragon’s Notions ” in the “ Referee ” of January 30th :—“ I have already mentioned that Myers, the famous American flyer, is to come over here, and as there seems to be some misapprehensions as to the why and the wherefore, as well as tho how, of his coming, I may as well give exact particulars. He is not coming at either the invitation or the expense of any London club, the Manhattan Athletic Club, of which Myers is a member, finding the sinews of war for him. The chief object of his visit is the championship meeting, and, as all distances between a hundred yards and a mile appear to be the same to him, it will bo rather interesting to discover the races in which ho will be a starter. It is to be hoped he will not endeavor to do too much on the one day, and so find out at tho finish that he has succeeded in doing nothing. Plenty of opportunity will be afforded him during his stay of upsetting all our shorter records. Myers will find on this side as fine specimens of speedists as a generous rival could wish to meet. Pace was perhaps never so plentiful in England as it is now, but we do not appear to be overdone with pluck. And if my information be correct, Myers is as remarkable for his determination as he is for his fleetness. Were two men I could name gifted with staunchness to a similar extent, we might look with some confidence to the meeting between them and Myers at their own best distances. Unfortunately, they are both of tho sort which never snatches a race out of the fire or wins through sheer desperation.
