KAIAPOI FOAL, GRAIN AND ROOT SHOW.

The sixth annual show on Thursday, held in tho Oddfellows’ Hall, Kaiapoi, was a decided success in regard to tho number and quality of the exhibits of grain and roots. Tho attendance of the public was larger than in any previous year. The foals were exhibited in a paddock lent by Mr Moran on Raven quay. In this part of the show there was a marked deficiency in tho number of exhibits, owing to the want of encouragement which breeders are at present receiving, and tho low price of horses. The toalo shown were very good. The first prize animal in the class for foals from heavy mares was a very fire one, but it is probable the first in the second class would have been judged the beat on tho ground, Tho grain show was well represented, the competition in Tuscan wheats and short oats being very close, though the first in the latter class were too closely threshed. The prize oats weighed 521 b per bushel, the second 481 b. The Tuscan wheat and malting barley which took the prizes were very superior samples. The first prize Derwent potatoes were a splendid sample. Competition ra close also in kidneys and orange globe mangolds. To look at the roots shown seemed to quite dispel any idea of a previous dry season. The prize red mangolds, grown at Papanui, included one which weighed There was a fine show of dairy produce.
